June is Prime Buffalo River Dark Sky Time

Catch the Milky Way at Its Best

During June, the Milky Way wheels into prime view over the Ozark Mountains of the upper Buffalo National River, and a BOC mountain-top cabin or RV park site is the perfect place to catch the show.

Stay & Gaze

Designated as Arkansas’s first Dark Sky Resort by the Arkansas Natural Sky Association, BOC’s mountain-top cabins provide big views, seclusion, dark night-time surroundings and deck or yard areas for setting up a tripod for those all-important night sky shots.  Not shooting the night sky?  We promise there’s plenty to enjoy with the naked eye or even a pair of binoculars.

RV with the Stars

With its commanding mountain-top view of the Buffalo River sky, our RV park has plenty of wide-open spaces for setting up a camera.  Or, you can simply enjoy the Milky Way, constellations and planets from the comfort of your campsite.  You can also catch the night sky from the hilltop across from the RV park via our grassy walking trail.

River of Stars

There’s no river like this river, especially when the Milky Way is at peak performance in the Arkansas night sky.  The Buffalo National River now enjoys the status of “Dark Sky Park” as designated by the International Dark-Sky Association, so it’s the perfect place to stalk the stars.  Near Ponca you’ll find the Steel Creek campground a great place to stargaze, whether on the gravel bar or in a camp chair beside your tent.
